Recruits Signed - 2010

Week 1
3* DE (#44) Adam Reid, California - 6'2, 266
Tendency - Run Stopper
-- Reid is a small but powerful end that tackles very well. Stanford would like to see him improve his speed so he could become a more effective pass rusher. The Cardinal have two promising freshman ends already on their roster so Reid will have to train hard to become a starter.
Projected - Redshirt first season, backup until Senior season

3* T (#31) Derek White, California - 6'4, 311
Tendency - Balanced
-- Derek is a big tackle who can run block and pass protect. He is very strong and is a slightly better blocker in the run game. Joker would like to see him improve his pass block footwork (D+) to help protect the quarterback. Tackle is a position of need for Stanford and he could see playing time his first season.
Projected - Backup first season, potential Sophomore starter

Week 8
3* WR (#169) Mike Hill, California - 6'1, 160 - JUCO (SO)
Tendency - Speed
-- Hill is a fast receiver who can stretch the defense vertically, though does drop a fair number of passes. He also does not get off press coverage very well and has been injury prone.
Projected - Redshirt first season, slot receiver in 2012

3* T (#20) Wesley Black, California - 6'5, 298
Tendency - Balanced
-- Black is a very effective blocker who can get up the field to make blocks. This makes him suitable in Joker's pro offense that features a lot of screens and quick passes. He needs to improve his run blocking.
Projected - Redshirt first season, potential starter in 2012

3* DT (#73) Carey Smith, California - 6'3, 283
Tendency - Balanced
-- Smith isn't very big and could be converted into a defensive end, though he does lack the speed (D-). More than likely Smith will sub in on passing downs because he has an excellent power move and pursuit. Most likely will be a backup his entire career unless he puts on some weight, though he may sub in on passing downs.
Projected - Redshirt first season, third string DT who can sub in on passing downs

3* TE (#42) Kelvin Bain, California - 6'5, 243
Tendency - Blocking
-- Bain joins a talented tight end core, and at 6'5 - 243 will actually be the smallest member of the group. He is an excellent run blocker and is getting better at running routes (C).
Projected - Redshirt first season, will be primarily used in goal line sets, special teams player

3* TE (#53) Shedrick Garner, California - 6'8, 240
Tendency - Blocking
-- The Cardinal are very excited about Garner. At 6'8 - 240, he joins a huge group of tight ends. He is a good run blocker, though he needs to work on protecting the passer. More than likely he will be out catching passes, as he is terrific at catching in traffic (B-). Could become a huge red zone target and touchdown machine.
Projected - Redshirt first season, depending on his development could challenge for the starting job in 2012 (has to improve his catching - D-)

3* CB (#83) Jason Davis, California - 5'9, 171
Tendency - Balanced
-- The Cardinal will be very young at corner next year, which both hinders and helps Davis. He has a chance to play, but will be competing with many other freshman and sophomores. Davis is fairly fast and is good in coverage, though his size and poor tackling ability makes him a liability when defending the run.
Projected - Redshirt first season, dime corner and special teams player

4* WR (#34) Rodney Wilson, California - 6'5, 199
Tendency - Balanced
-- Rodney is the jewel of the Stanford class at this point. He is tall, fast and has tremendous jumping ability (B) making him a nice target in the red zone. His hands are questionable and he needs to improve his route running.
Projected - Redshirt first season, slot receiver in 2012

Week 9
3* TE (#52) Jeremy Miller, California - 6'7, 199
Tendency - Blocking
-- Stanford continues to beef up its tight end core as they sign another giant. Miller has the height but needs to put on some weight to become an effective blocker. He catches well in traffic (C+) but still drops too many passes (D- catching)
Projected - Redshirt first season, heavy sets blocker and special teams player

Week 10
3* WR (#88) Adam Dawson, California - 6'3, 189
Tendency - Possession
-- Adam brings a pair of solid hands to the Cardinal receiving core, but needs to work on his route running. He is also a good down field blocker.
Projected - Redshirt first season, 4th-5th receiver and special teams player

Week 11
3* QB (#66) Matt Quinn, California - 6'1, 180
Tendency - Balanced
-- Matt had a great high school career and is very poised in the pocket. He doesn't scramble well (D+ speed) and needs to improve his accuracy. Average arm.
Projected - Redshirt first season, career backup

3* TE (#64) Ronnie Armstrong, California - 6'5, 262 - JUCO (SO)
Tendency - Blocking
-- Ronnie joins a loaded tightend group for Stanford. He is a good run blocker but don't expect him to make great catches, or even easy ones (D catching). He will be hard pressed to become a regular unless he has a phenomenal training camp.
Projected - Redshirt first season, special teams player

3* WR (#166) Josh Robinson, Arizona - 6'4, 192
Tendency - Speed
-- Josh brings height and speed to Stanford. The first recruit from out of state, Josh excels at stretching the defense but needs to improve his hands (D catching) to make him a viable threat.
Projected - Redshirt first season, potential starter by his Junior season

3* SS (#71) Joey Martin, California - 6'2, 197 - JUCO (SO)
Tendency - Hard Hitter
-- Joey is a good coverage safety and makes receivers think twice about cutting over the middle. He needs to improve his play recognition, but has a chance to become an impact player.
Projected - Redshirt first season, special teams player, possible starter in 2012

3* DE (#96) Chris Woods, California - 6'4, 225
Tendency - Run Stopper
-- Chris is a strong defensive end that is excellent in pursuit, but needs to improve his tackling (D). He will be hard pressed to get a starting position over the other young DE's on the Cardinal roster.
Projected - Redshirt first season, career backup

2011 RECRUITING

After a mediocre class last season, Coach Joker hopes more recruits are interested in Stanford due to their strong season last year. Due to the Academic Prestige and requirements, however, getting recruits will always be a difficult task. No real specific areas of need, as both the offense and defense have 6 seniors leaving (not including any Juniors). Trying to improve the defense is always the main goal, but with a young defense this season the hopes are it can only get better. Joker has not stated whether or not he wants to try and find Andrew Luck's replacement this season.

Week 1
3* SS (#28) Jeremy Hall, California - 6'2, 182
Tendency - Hard Hitter
-- Jeremy brings a physical game to a secondary that struggles with tackling at times. He needs to improve his coverage ability to become an every down player.
Projection - Redshirt first season, career backup

4* SS (#14) Alex Chance, California - 6'1, 215
Tendency - Hard Hitter
-- Alex is another physical safety, but is bigger and a better tackler than Hall. He is a liability in the pass defense, but is an excellent tackler (B) and may see the field his first season.
Projection - Competing for starting job the first season, may see the field on running downs

3* FS (#22) Brandon Wilson, California - 6'1, 214
Tendency - Hard Hitter
-- Already we see a pattern in Stanford's recruiting as they try to get bigger and tougher on defense. They were pushed around at times last season and in their game against San Jose State last week. Wilson isn't a great tackler, but is solid in zone coverage and is a dangerous hitter.
Projection - Competing for starting job first season

4* DE (#25) Tony Alvarez, California - 6'0, 240
Tendency - Run Stopper
-- If Alvarez had speed, he'd be lethal. Unfortunately, he is slow and not very big, not a great combo for the end position. He showed he could get to the QB in high school, and he'll have to do that here to have any shot at starting.
Projection - Redshirt first season, career backup

3* G (#40) Sheldon Johnson, California - 6'3, 298
Tendency - Balanced
-- Johnson is a big lineman who is a better pass blocker than he is run blocker. There is also holes at the Guard position on Stanford's roster. Could make an impact.
Projection - Redshirt first season, possible starter in 2013

4* WR (#20) Michael Wilson, California - 6'1, 175
Tendency - Balanced
-- Wilson is a receiver with decent speed as well as hands. The receiver position is crowded with young players but not necessarily talent, so there could be an opening for him.
Projection - Redshirt first season, slot receiver in 2013
