Game 4 Recap: #14 Oklahoma Empty Game 4 Recap: #14 Oklahoma

The annual big time for these two programs, in what usually ends up being the battle for the Big 12 South, took place and lived up to the hype. Both teams are highly ranked and eager for a big win over their border rival.

The game starts fast, with Oklahoma moving the ball at will, slicing up the usually stingy Texas D with their spread no huddle offense, keeping Texas off balance and uncomfortable.

Okahoma scores on a nice pass from Jones to his backup HB. Texas answers with a long drive that is capped with a 20 yard option pitch run by sophomore sensation DJ Monroe. Oklahoma, unphased, scores again on their next drive to go up 14-7.

In the second quarter, Gilbert audibles seeing the Sooners stacked against the run and hits speedster Goodman on a 38 yard deep crossing route to tie it up 14-14. Oklahoma, again, wastes no time scoreing their third touchdown of the first half ona 17 hard run by their backup HB.

Halftime score is 21-14.

Unfortunately for the sooners, thats about where their good tidings ended. Oklahoma is shutout in the second half thanks to some sound defensive adjustments and becoming familiar with Oklahoma's offensive gameplan. Speedy freshman Mike Davis gets wide open on a flare route and scores an 85 yard TD tieing the game up. After Oklahoma is stopped the Longhorns put together a nice drive and Foswhitt Whittacker joins his backfield partner in the TD club, scampering in on a 2 yard goal line carry. with the sore 28-21 in the fourth quarter, Texas essentially ices the game with a short field goal and only a few minuts left to make it a ten point lead.

The running back tandem for Texas ended up with the following lines:

Whittacker - 24 carries, 77 yards, 1 td
Monroe - 14 carries, 74 yards, 1td.

After the game Monroe was seen talking to a scout from Texas A&M saying something about "lack of touches." Interesting development.
